Pride Jam – a.k.a. Sangria Jam [Sangria Fruits, with Gamay Beaujolais Wine] — part of the Friendship Series

Happy Pride Month!!  

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a proud, Gay, Black Man, and I am PROUD to be able to offer a special jam to celebrate Pride — in all of its glorious facets and variations, not only during Pride Month, but all year long!! Pride, to me, is not only about celebration, but reflection, education, growth, and acceptance. It is a time to come together, to raise awareness, and embrace each others uniqueness, individuality, and sense of community. But most of all, for me — it’s all about love; love for our family; our friends; our neighbors.

When I decided I wanted to do a Pride Jam this year, I looked to, and embraced the spirit of celebration, on a personal level.  My husband Paul [who will be the featured friend in July for The Friendship Series!] and I are known for our Sangria, which makes an appearance at every party or celebration… it is legendary, and it is LETHAL!!  It has a way of sneaking up on you… 🙂  But it has the most amazing, fruity flavor — probably because there are, like… seemingly a million fruits in it!  So, I kept all of the fruits, and the fruit juices, I kept the wine, and eliminated all of the other alcohol [so that the jam could actually have a chance to gel!]; using my Sugar Plum Preserves recipe as a jumping off point, I played around with this jam recipe for a couple of months, and I am so very pleased with the final product!  This jam is SPECIAL; smooth, fruity, complex, incredibly flavorable… and FUN!

Looking at the ingredients in my Sangria recipe, I correlated them to the colors in the rainbow flag:

• RED — Cherries & Raspberries;
• ORANGE — Peaches & Peach Juice;
• YELLOW — Pineapple;
• GREEN — Limes;
• BLUE — Blackberries, Blueberries & Mixed Berry Juice;
• PURPLE — Gamay Beaujolais Wine

This unique, and festive jam is perfect for your Pride brunch, or a gift [imagine a jar of it in a basket of scones!] — the possibilities are ENDLESS!
