So… I’ve been visiting Farmer’s Markets all over Southern California like a beast, looking for two different fruits in particular… Peaches, and Plums… Peaches & Plums… standards of the current fruit season… USUALLY. But no. From what I’m being told, because of the heavy rains earlier this year, stone fruits will arrive on the scene later than usual this year, and it should be a bumper crop!
Well… yay for that; but that doesn’t help me right now! So… I needed to find a substitute SOMETHING, that I could turn into a jam, or jelly, or preserves… or a butter… to fill at least ONE of the slots that the Plum Jam, and Peach Preserves would have taken… so I am hoofing it around these Farmer’s Markets… it’s hot, I have a cool beverage in my hand… I take a moment to sit and think on a bench near the fruit stands, and I’m thirsty, so I take another sip… Dang, but they make great Jamaica at the Farmer’s Market… so flavorful, so fruity… so… hmmm… could I? COULD I?
So I raced back to where I got my beverage, and looked at the dried Hibiscus flowers they had for sale… so lush… and moist, and fragrant… and my beverage was AMAZING, so I figured, why not give it a shot! So I spent all weekend experimenting, and I had great success y’all…
So while Peach and Plum are waiting in the wings to make their big debut a little later this season, I am pleased and proud to announce our newest flavor, Jamaica [Hibiscus] Jelly! There is so much flavor packed into that jar – my mind is still blown! And it is such a pretty color…
Keep an eye out on the website — you should see it, and all of the other flavors that make up the ‘New Kids On The Block’ in a day or two!
Then then… 😀
