What’s The Story with the different types of canning jars… and other updates!

Hello All!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog entry, so I thought I’d take some time tonight to drop you a line, say hi, and catch you up on things…

First off – The Friendship Jam Series is going very well, and is being very well received by all of you — thank you for that! All of the jams in the series are selling well — especially Daniel’s Jam! As of today, there’s only [2] jars left… guess I should do more low/no sugar jams! 😀

If there is a jam flavor that you want to order, but you see it is out of stock, drop me a line — if it’s possible, I’ll gladly make more… with some flavors, the fruit is seasonal. If I can’t get fresh, ripe, and flavorful fruit from a local farm or known source, then I will wait until I can, cause I only want to provide the best possible product to you! I do try and restock on a regular basis throughout the year for the regular flavors, so check the site often… a restock might have snuck in under your nose!!

Looking over the questions that I get from my customers, I do get one question repeatedly… a variation of “what’s with all of the different types and shapes of jars?” Well… there is a reason for that…

Originally, I wanted a ‘Country Store’ type of feeling, with jams and jellies in different types, shapes and designs of jars, just like you would see on the shelf of a typical country store, and things started off that way; my jams, jellies, perserves, marmalades and butters were presented in different types and shapes of jars, based of the type of product that was in each jar, but when COVID hit, jar supplies became scarce, and over the past year, any thing I canned ended up in whatever type or shape of jar that I could find; and I was lucky to find the jars that I did find! But it is now 2021; things are slowly getting back to normal, and I am making a marked effort to return to the ways of old! So, to share my vision, here is what the breakdown is according to the type and shape of jar… since you asked… 🙂

NOTE: ALL JARS, REGARDLESS OF SHAPE/DESIGN, HOLD 8 OUNCES…

Anchor Hocking Jar: This jar is intended and used for any jam flavor that I consider to be ‘special’, unique, or out of the ordinary… The Friendship Jam Series will all be in this type of jar. Also Limited Edition jams. Other examples would be Carrot Cake Jam; Black Forest Jam, Pineapple Jam, etc…
Ball/Kerr Regular Mouth – Standard Canning Jar: This jar is used for any jam that doesn’t fall into any other category — such as Apple Pie Jam; Blackberry Apple Jam; Raspberry Mango Jam, etc…
Ball/Kerr Wide Mouth Jar: This particular jar is used for all Butters and Preserves — Butters and Preserves tend to be thicker, and the wide mouth provides easier access to the contents… Double ‘B’ Berry Preserves; Peach Butter; Plum Preserves, etc. can all be found in this style of jar.
Golden Harvest Regular Mouth Jar: This style of jar is used solely and specifically for Special Edition flavors… i.e. Sugar Plum; and any other holiday or special release.
Quilted Jars: These jars are used solely for jellies and marmalades — i.e. Champagne Jelly; Lime Marmalade; Port Wine Jelly, etc.
Squared Edge ‘Mason’ Jar: This jar is used exclusively for my savory jams… i.e. Onion Jam; Tomato Jam, etc.
4 oz. Quilted or Smooth Jar: These jars are used for my Custom Favors special orders; and for my 6-count Variety Packs.

Of course, right now, things are topsy turvy and jams and jellies aren’t all in the type of jar that they normally would be found in, but over the next couple of months, and I restock sold out flavors, you will start to see a gradual shift back to the original design plan… and there you have it; a little glimpse into my brain… Thanks for spending a bit of time with me… Have a great day!!
